Success! Our first bus ride all the way to Munali without getting harassed once – I would like to make note of that. Let’s hope that it will stay that way, though that’s highly doubtful …. At Munali we ran two P.E. sessions, one at Mumana for 2nd graders, and one at Tunduya for 8th graders. Both sessions went really well. The 2nd graders were super hyper and a little out of control but it was still a lot of fun.
Football practice with the girls today was very different from what they usually do. Today, the girls did a lot of fun and movement games, with coach Shedric teaching them about HIV/AIDS, abstinence, drugs, and other important life-skills topics. Shedric is pretty much the man. He makes the games all a lot of fun, filled with singing and dancing. If I were the girls I would totally listen to him. The games were really entertaining to watch, and I spent a lot of the time taking pictures of the girls. We’re going to give all the pictures to Sport In Action when we leave so they can use them for their website or brochures.
After the past few days of transportation issues we’ve decided to make sure to negotiate the price before boarding one of those blue busses of misery. Approaching to bus we take to go home I said to the man “3000 to Pick-N-Pay?” He replied with “No, 3000 and 1.” I just stared at him and said, “No, no muzungu price, it’s 3000.” He finally just nodded and said ok. Boom. Looks like we have our strategy down.
When we got home tonight there were no lights on in the house. This seemed odd because we were pretty sure that our housemates were home. When we opened the back door to the kitchen it was pitch black except for a candle. Ivy and Dave were standing there and just said, “Uh ya we have no power.” Ha, well that explains it. We wandered around with flashlights for about 30 minutes until the lights came back on and we could start making dinner.
The kitchen has become our hang out spot and we spend a lot of time just sitting around the table talking. After such long and tiring days of work it’s the perfect way to relax. We planned our upcoming weekend trip to Livingstone! We’re planning on going there with Dave and Mike and staying on a really cool jungle island that Ivy told us about. Oh and of course we’re going to go bungee jumping, that’s a must. We just need to book all our reservations in the next few days and we’ll be all set!
