Expert Nshima Makers

6/15

We went into the office again in the morning to start our day.  Then we headed over to Munali to run P.E. sessions as usual.  We had the 6th graders from Tunduya this time.  We finally ran a session from start to finish with no outside help from the peer leaders.  The clap game, which I often use at basketball camps, was a huge hit!  The kids loved it and we decided that it would be something we will use in upcoming sessions.  At the end we split the students into two groups to have small group discussions about drugs.  That was this week's topic.  We found that having smaller numbers made the talk much more effective.  More kids paid attention and participated which was a big improvement from past sessions.

The rest of our work day was spent in the office working out the details of out HIV/AIDS education classes which we will be starting next week!  We are so excited that we will finally be able to start our research and program evaluation!  We went back to the house and created our first powerpoint and hashed out the overall lesson plan for the six weeks.

For dinner we made nshima!  You may think that we would have failed since it was our first time, but you are wrong!  It came out perfectly, and we made baked beans and green beans to go with it.  Even Mubanga tried the nshima and said that it was "prepared correctly."  We are becoming more Zambian every day.

After dinner we got a phone call from Newton telling us to go outside and look at what's happening to the moon. We didn't really know what he meant, but when we went out to look, the moon was half covered over and orange.  We got to see a lunar eclipse!  It was so cool!  We sat outside with Mike and Dave and watched it for a while before it got too cold.  It was a good ending to a good day.
