Banana Nut Muffins, Skype Dates, and a Zambian Football Party

Today was skyping day!! We love looking forward to skyping with our family and friends.  Chrissy got up before I did and did a load of laundry – I should have but I was too lazy.  It was also absolutely freezing out and super windy – this weather sucks.  We had hot tea and made really yummy banana nut muffins for breakfast that we ate hot out of the oven.

We cleaned our room (for the first time since we have been here) because we were having guests over at noon.  The two men who are in charge of the Durham and North Umbria programs working with Sport In action (and who also own the house we are staying in) were coming over for a meeting with the directors of Sport In Action.  We talked to them about the groups that they send here and they were very interested in making some more connections in the US and getting a group from Duke to come here.  It definitely got us thinking about trying to set up a Duke Engage group project in Zambia to work with Sport In Action.

We went into town with Ivy and ate lunch at Mint Lounge, which once again had delicious food.  Chrissy and I both got flavored lattes (gingerbread and vanilla) and I know I want to go back there to get another one soon.  After that we hit the internet place and skyped for a few hours.  We did some quick grocery shopping and then got a cab to Sammy’s house.  He had invited us over for dinner and to watch the Women’s World Cup.  We were really excited because they US was playing Brazil and it was supposed to be the best game of the quarterfinals.  We hung out with him and Mwape (who also lives with Sammy) watching the game, which the US brilliantly won in penalty kicks.  The dinner Sammy made us was sooooo good: pasta, mince meat with tomatoes, carrots, onions, and spices, and then green beans.  We had brought over drinks and cookies for desert, American style oreos and chocolate chip cookies of course.  We had some great conversations, one of which consisted of talking about the Zambian style of dancing.  Chrissy proceeded to explain how we can’t understand how the Zambia women dance in such a way that they can vigorously move their butts but keep all other parts of their bodies are still.  She got up to demonstrate what she was saying and Sammy and Mwape found it really funny.  It was a really fun and relaxing night.
